I sold all my vinyl thirty years ago. Returned to vinyl about 5 years ago and am slowly building a new collection. The sound quality is great - not better, just different and I like it. More importantly I take more time to listen when I put an LP on the turntable. That’s precisely why I returned to it - the whole experience, the inconvenience of it, the care of handling it and dropping the needle onto the record, the moments looking at the artwork while listening - never skipping tracks - none of these things happen when I listen to CDs or MP3s. Vinyl retruns me to the days when I had more focus, a longer attention span, and really cared for what I was hearing. And now I’m in love with it all over again.

Since December of 2020, this old lefty went out and got a guitar. Stagg strat type. Since then, not liking how it was going with this first one, I set out to find out what I like. Thanks to Thomann and HB, I've bought a 335 type, an SG type, a jazzmaster type, 2 tele types (there's an old timer joke in there somewhere) and a gold top SC. I now know what I like as I've truly begun to cull the herd. This would never have been possible back in the 70s and 80s when I was young. And RUclips is off the charts with lessons and guitar channels so it's a golden time.

Good stuff John. I have to say that from late 70s to late 90s I had at least three gigs a week and lots of sessions. There were more places to play back ,then proper budget's for recording. Used to get royalties for songs too. I agree it's different now and opportunity's as opposed to who you know. I'm not saying it was better but definitely not over subscribed like today. I think more than any other guitar, the SG has its own distinctive, beautiful look. So, looks play a BIG part in buying an SG. The P90's don't get it done. Maybe you like the sound, but it doesn't have the SG look. In fact, to me, an SG isn't an SG unless it is cherry red, chrome humbuckers AND it should have the Maestro Vibrola. Epiphone makes one for $600.

NIcely played for 'Anyday'! I hope you can pickup the boxsets with the jams, they are great fun. I was lucky in the 1970s to pickup a Canadian (only version released) double LP "History of Eric Clapton" compilation with several of the "Tell the Truth" jams on it. I think one of them is only on this on LP not even on later CD boxsets. I still marvel at how lucky were are that Eric and Duane converged in Miami completely by chance and this was the consequence, then only a year later Duane was gone for good.

Many of those satillites were just made to look nice. Some humbuckers were actually single coils in a humbucker shell. Some Hondo guitars (I am sure came from the same factory) had Di marzios ....if you were lucky. Even some mid 80s squires also had plywood bodies. Not to mention the leap forward in transistor technology, some of those practice amps from yesteryear were also piss poor. Yep i am also showing my age 😁👍👍👍👍
